A police helicopter crashed and burst into flames in the central Nigerian city of Jos on Wednesday, killing four policemen on board, including a senior officer, authorities said. "Four police officers, including a (deputy inspector general), were killed," police spokesman Yemi Ajayi told AFP. Government officials, emergency services and residents said the helicopter came down in a residential area in the Rukuba district of the city. It was not immediately clear if there were casualties on the ground, and the cause of the crash was not yet known. According to a bank manager in Kaduna who spoke on condition of anonymity, the insecurity in the region has created vacancies in most banks in the northern states, especially Bauchi, Borno, Plateau, Kaduna and Kano. He said most young graduates who were employed not long ago, have resigned their jobs due to pressure from their loved ones to quit the north. He added that when the banks attempted to transfer personnel from the south to fill the vacancies, they were met with resistance and threats of resignation by experienced staff, adding that "Most people interviewed for replacement from the northern region did not measure up" (intellectually).

Mubi (Adamawa) – Residents of Yelwa ward in Mubi town of Adamawa, woke up Monday morning to discover six dead bodies riddled with bullets, dumped in the area. The discovery of the corpses instilled fear in the minds of the residents, some of whom had started fleeing their homes. One of the residents, Isa Audu, said that they heard gun shots at about 4 a.m. that day, only to wake up to see the dead bodies lined up on the street. "We heard gun shots and later in the morning, we saw dead bodies in the neighbourhood. "The bodies were arranged in single file, with some of them in under-wear shorts and vests", said Audu, himself looking terrified. He added that the discovery had forced some families to flee the area for fear of what might likely occur as a result of the incident. GHANA--A father and son who had sex with a 15-year-old primary four pupil, resulting in pregnancy, have been sentenced to a total of 44 years in prison. The Koforidua Circuit Court which handed out the sentence Thursday, gave the father, Daniel Kwaku Danquah, a farmer aged 43, a maximum of 24 years while his son, Moses Danquah, aged 23, a cushion liner, was given 20 years, both with hard labour. The incident occurred at Nobi, a village near Akyem Tafo in the Eastern Region on different dates in November and December, last year and January, this year. Both father and son, who were charged with defilement, pleaded guilty before the court presided over by Madam Wilhelmina Hammond.
