Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okojie, Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has retired from his seat at the age of 76 and has been replaced by Bishop Alfred Adewale Martins, who was the former bishop of Abeokuta diocese. Okojie, born in 1936 was ordained a priest of the Catholic church at the age of 33.
Okojie who became archbishop in 1973 has served in various capacities. He once served as chaplain for the Nigerian army and an instructor at King's college. He was also one time president of the Christain Association Of Nigeria (CAN) and head of Bishop's conference. He was appointed cardinal by late Pope John Paul II in 2003 and was among the college of cardinals that selected the Pope Benedict XVI as present head of the Catholic church.
You would recall I mentioned not so long ago that the archbishop was managing an illness, although no word has been said about his present condition, I just hope and pray he is healthy, hail and strong.
