SHELL REPORTS NEW OIL SPILL IN NIGERIA

Royal Dutch Shell PLC said that one of its crude oil pipelines running through the Niger-delta had spilled oil.

In a statement released by Shell on sunday, the oil spill was discovered the previous day on its Adibawa pipeline and that a containment team was sent there to stop the leak and are now working on cleaning up the spill.

Shell maintains that these type of incidents are largely due to oil thefts and saboteurs, but the Environment Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria said the latest leak was a result of operational failure and poor equipment maintenance by Shell.
