Scientists from the Institute of Aerospace Instrumentation (AI), Russia have found large deposits of gold and oil in Taraba State. Silver, lead, zinc and precious stones have also been discovered in appreciable quantities. The mineral deposits are said to have been in commercial quantities in the northern and central parts of the state. The Russian scientists have met Governor Danbaba Suntai on their findings. They said silver is the most promising of their discoveries, with deposits covering 1.7 km in 1000 square kilometres of land, which they used for the survey. The scientists were led by the Economic Counsellor of the Russian Embassy, Valery Shaposhinkov. "We have vast experience in mineral exploration across the world. We are sure of our findings," Shaposhinkov told Suntai. Police in California say a burglar made himself comfortable after breaking into a family's home -- drank their champagne and then took a shower. In fact the naked burglar was still in the shower when the family returned home and called 911 and he was still in the shower and lathered up when officers arrived. Officers -- who arrested the 25-year-old at gunpoint -- said he had also helped himself to a meal at the home before jumping in the shower. A suspected fake journalist has been arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly duping a Lagos monarch to the tune of N18 million. The suspected journalist, Ortega Eyankire, 28, was arrested on Monday. He is said to have duped the traditional ruler, Oba Ashimiyu Olorunfemi, the Elegbede of Egbe in Egbe Idimu area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. The suspect was believed to be using the name of the National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Asiwaju Bola AhmedTinubu, to extort money from the monarch over a long time. The judge said he "recognizes that there is another side to the man James ibori," but that he was not "the proper person to judge your achievements and failings as a governor. That is up to the people of Delta State." Mr. Ibori looked lost and forlorn as Judge Pitts spoke before announcing his jail sentence. The judge disclosed that, if Mr. Ibori had fought the case, he would be looking at a 24-year jail sentence, but noted that the former governor got a reprieve for pleading guilty. He then sentenced Mr. Ibori to 13 years behind bars in a UK prison, judge Pitt is also expected to rule over the confiscation of all of ibori's property, although date for the hearing has not been announced. By sunday morning more than 100 tornadoes had ripped through the Oklahoma Midwest, leaving at least five dead. The tornadoes leveled houses and left thousands of people without power. According to CBS, at least five people were killed in the storms and dozens more were injured.
