Judge Mojisola Dada of Lagos court of appeal today sentenced Abacha's right hand man and orchestrator of many high profile killing, Major Hamza Al-mustapha to death by hanging. The sentence is a result of the trial for the machine gun killing of late MKO Abiola's wife in 1993 as well as the masterminding of other high profile killing in Nigeria during Abacha's reign. Also sentenced to death by hanging alongside Al-Mustapha is shofolahan. Abacha's chief security officer (Al-Mustapha) is being sentenced for ordering sgt Rogers (Barnabas Jabila) to kill the wife MKO Abiola. Shofolahan who was Mrs Kudirat's protocol officer was implicated by major Hamza Al-mustapha as being responsible for giving away Mrs Kudirat's itinerary that aided her killers to find her. 11 suspected Boko Haram members were, in the yesterday incident, killed after soldiers from the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) clashed with them in two wards of Maiduguri. One member of the sect was arrested during the clash which reportedly lasted 15 minutes. The arrested member, with injuries, according to security sources, was taken to the University of Maidiguri Teaching Hospital for treatment. Before the clash, three gunmen suspected to belong  to the Boko Haram sect, attacked the Borno ANPP youth leader, Alhaji Atake, 32, near Mai-Deribe mosque in Bulunkutu ward of Maiduguri. The gunmen shot him in the head and arm, killing him instantly. A German worker, for the Dantata and Sawoe Company was kidnapped Thursday in Kano state. The man, whose name has not been released, was said to be cuffed and placed inside the car trunk (boot) of his kidnappers and taken to an unknown location. A spokeswoman for the German Foreign Ministry said officials were looking into the reports. The man was abducted from one of the company's road building projects on a bridge on the outskirts of the city, police said. While a search for the kidnapped has begun, there is no knowing whether the Boko Haram sect is involved in the Kidnap, the sect is however not known for kidnapping.

Edo state Governor, Adams Oshiomole has decided to help the people of his state cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal, he  said in a broadcast on Thursday that he was conscious of immediate measures to alleviate the effects of the subsidy removal. Adams Oshiomole announced the cancellation of all administration of fees and levies, PTA levies in all public senior secondary schools for both indigenes and residents.  He also reduced the  fees of the state-owned Ambrose Ali University (AAU), Ekpoma by N15,000 for each regular  undergraduate student irrespective of state of origin, and N5,000 reduction fees for each part-time undergraduate student. "The total revenue of this reduction will be paid to the university by the Edo state government in addition to the N210 million monthly subvention" he said. Free medical treatment for pensioners and senior citizens both indigenes and non-indegenes from 70 years and above resident in the state, non increase in current transport

The BBC's Yusuf Yakasai in the city says there is pandemonium with people running all over the place and plumes of smoke rising into the sky. One of the blasts hit the federal police headquarters in the city and two other police stations, he says. No-one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Islamist militants have been behind a recent campaign of violence in the mainly Muslim north. Our reporter says there is also a shoot-out going on at the police's state head office in the east of the city. The blasts targeted different neighbourhoods of the city. So far he is aware of explosions at the federal police headquarters in the west of the city, one police station in the centre, and another police station in the south. A reporter for the AP news agency said one of the explosions was powerful enough to shake his car several miles away from the blast. More news on this as story unfolds.

Actor David Ihezie was said to have died yesterday at his home town in Enugu after a brief battle with Arthritis. He was said to have been in an out of Hospitals until the time of his death. (Reuters) - Nigeria's police are offering a 50 million naira reward for information leading to the recapture of the main suspect in a Christmas Day bomb attack, who escaped within 24 hours of his arrest this week. Police arrested Kabiru Sokoto on Tuesday and while they were taking him from police headquarters to search his house outside Abuja, their vehicle came under fire. They have now placed a N50million reward on his head for anyone who can provide meaningful information that can lead to his recapture. Kabiru Sokoto is aged 28, fair in complexion and speaks English, Hausa and Arabic languages fluently.

Chevron Corp says it has ended the search for 2 workers who went missing during a fire outbreak at an off-shore rig within our coastal delta waters. The company released a statement today saying it extends it condolences to the families of the missing persons, but did not declare however that the missing persons were dead. The company stated that they have been able to account for the 152 persons that were at work on the rig and the near by barge when the fire started on monday except for the 2persons that have gone missing since the fire outbreak, the fire was believed to have resulted from a mechanical malfunction or a build up of gas pressure. The NLC has suspended the nation wide strike which began on monday 9th Jan, following the partial return of fuel subsidy by the FG that now places fuel price at N97 from the initially proposed N141.00 earlier announced by government.
